ART
Hello dear great artists,
Here is a website to explore. You can experiment how a piece of art is put together. If you would use art language you will have to say “how art is composed”.
You can compare it with cooking a dish.
When you cook you have ingredients like sugar, salt, eggs etc. When you mix them together in a bowl or pan you get a dish.
When you create art you have elements of design like line, shape, form, color, texture and space. When you mix them together in a drawing, painting or sculpture you get a composition.
According how you mix the ingredients you can describe your dish spicy, sweet, salty etc.
According how you mix the elements in art you can describe your composition like colorful, warm, balanced, symmetrical etc.
The words you use to describe your composition are called principles of design like pattern, rhythm, balance, proportion, emphasis, unity and variety.
Most of this art vocabulary you have heard about in art class. If you find it difficult to read or understand the words you can ask somebody to help you.
Just be a risk taker and you will enjoy learning about art. When you come back to school you can share your own art work and explain it to the others using the language of design.

MUSIC
Grade 5 Band Homework
GOALS:
1) correct embouchure and posture
2) correct breathing technique (watch DVD if you have it)
3) play page 4 exercises 1-6
4) practice exercises on page 5. Try to learn note names and values.
To help you with technique on your instrument, use your DVD and CD-rom for support. If you do not have one, see if you can borrow from someone who plays the same instrument.
To help you with notes and rhythm, go to www.musictheory.net.
Under LESSONS, you will find instruction about notes and rhythm (the first 3 lessons).
Under trainers, you will find help for note-reading under ‘note trainer’ and for brass instruments, go to TRAINER, find BRASS TRAINER, find SET YOUR INSTRUMENT, click on the picture of your instrument, and go ahead to practice the notes specific for your instrument.
Grade 5 Choir homework
The following assignment should be returned to the music teacher:
1) Choose a positive song or piece of music you like and would like to recommend to your classmates. The song must have lyrics that are appropriate for school and children. The lyrics should also have a healthy message that make us want to share the song with others.
2) Write your thoughts about the music. Why do you like to listen to it? How does it make you feel?
3) Compare the lyrics of the song to the Musical Learner Profile. What traits can you find in the lyrics or the message of the song? To remind you, the traits are caring, risk-taking, inquirer, communicator, reflective, open-minded, balanced, knowledgeable, principled, thinkers.
4) Rate the song you have chosen, * (one star) being lowest and ***** (5 stars) being highest.
5) Bring the song and your thoughts about it to class, where we will share our favorite music and discuss lyrics and the good messages songs can relay. We will then compile a list of ‘good music’ to share with classmates and other classes.

PE
Dear Parents,
Physical activity is a great way to help children burn off their seemingly endless supply of energy and boost up their immune system at the same time. Areas you could focus on are the development of coordination, strong muscles, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility.
Play, in and of itself, is exercise. This is particularly true for younger children, like preschoolers, kindergarten, and young elementary ages. Lots of playtime, both inside and outdoors, is an important thing for young children. Make sure they have plenty of free play, where their imaginations soar and their bodies are busy. Take some time to play with them. This can be working on specific skills, like catching a ball, kicking a soccer ball, rope skipping or just playing tag, depending on the equipment you have available at home. If you happen to have access to a pool, your child could show you the skills he/she has learned in class this week and they could continue to practice those skills.

Kids games ideas:
* For children, a daily minimum of 60 min of physical activity is recommended.
Ideas to work on hand-eye coordination
Below are some catching skills you could practice with your child to improve hand eye coordination. All these can be done with balls that bounce. Most activities can also be done with objects such as scarves, a towel or balls that don’t bounce.
To make it easier use light objects like scarves or balloons.
To make it more challenging you could change the ball with a smaller ball. Imagine how these catches with a tennis ball might even be challenging to you.
